Surrounded by woodlands, the American Dream Home, built by Kevin Ward of K.W. Homes, is located in the beautiful community of Robinson’s Mill, 38-acre, 61 lot subdivision that is distinctively noticeable by its full-scale mill house and active waterwheel. The Southern Living American Dream Home is a traditional style home. This 2,730 square-foot, two-story home is complete with four bedrooms, three full baths, and a spacious recreation room that could serve as a fifth bedroom. The bold exterior of the home is composed of brick, and innovative James Hardie Color-Plus siding that offers a variety of natural textures and colors. Exquisite lighting offers an inviting approach to the eight-foot wood and glass entry door that enhances its majestic look. The home features beautiful landscaping that takes advantage of the natural beauty of Robinson’s Mill.
A few of the energy saving features that have been incorporated in the EarthCents, Southern Living Dream Home that one wouldn’t necessarily see (except in your monthly energy and water bill savings) are impact resistant windows with a U-factor that has a lower resistance to heat flow and a better insulating value. For the minimization of air leakage for increased energy efficiency, soft spray foam insulation and air barrier system, is used in the home as well as R-23 BIB blown insulation in all exterior walls.
“It was a challenging experience making the interior design selections for the home,” said Donna Ward, who played a key role with her husband, Kevin, in the construction of the Dream Home. “Not only do the selections have to complement each other with the design of the home, but we worked hard to use products made from recycled or eco-friendly materials.”
In order to qualify for a true EarthCents Certification, one must incorporate facets of construction that comply within strict guidelines.
